Salus Mutual’s Board of Directors has approved policyholder refunds totalling $1,250,000 for 2025. This refund is more than a financial milestone — it’s a sincere thank you to the members whose trust, loyalty, and partnership made another strong year possible.
"This policyholder refund reflects the strong financial results achieved together with our members," said Steve Dilts, President and CEO. "As a mutual insurer, our focus is on long-term stability and returning value to policyholders when conditions allow. With the current state of affairs it is good to know we can provide comfort and benefits back to our members in the local communities."
What This Means for You
The 2025 refund applies to policies for Personal Property, Commercial Property, Liability, Hail Insurance, and Farmer’s Accident & Sickness Insurance. Refund cheques are now being issued. Members with questions are encouraged to contact Salus Mutual directly. (Please note: refunds under $10 are not issued.)
While refunds aren’t guaranteed every year, they are one of the meaningful benefits of being part of a mutual insurance company. Each year, Salus Mutual carefully reviews its financial performance and completes a full audit to ensure regulatory requirements are met and long-term reserves remain strong. When results allow, we’re proud to share that success with the members who helped make it happen.
The Mutual Difference
As a member-owned organization, Salus Mutual operates differently than many insurers. There are no external shareholders — our policyholders are the owners. That means when the company has a successful year, members directly benefit.
Our Board of Directors is also made up of policyholders, ensuring decisions are made locally and with the best interests of members in mind. It’s a model rooted in trust, accountability, and community — and one that has guided mutual insurance in Ontario for generations.
Giving back doesn’t stop with refunds. Being a mutual also means investing in the communities we call home. Member premiums help support initiatives such as the Dutton community garden, which provides fresh produce to local food banks, along with safety awareness programs, scholarships, and community sponsorships across the region.
Formed in 2023 through the amalgamation of Howard Mutual and West Elgin Mutual, Salus Mutual proudly carries forward a long-standing tradition of mutual support. With offices in Aylmer, Blenheim, Dutton, Ridgetown, and Rodney, our team understands local needs because we live and work alongside our members.
That’s the mutual way — neighbours helping neighbours — and it’s a tradition we’re grateful to continue, together.
