When the Dutton & District Lions Club first opened Caledonia Gardens in 1993, they set out to provide quality affordable housing for local seniors. More than three decades later, the waiting list for those apartments tells a powerful story — one of genuine need in our community.

That's why the Lions are building Caledonia Three.

This new 30-unit complex will join Caledonia Gardens and Caledonia Two on the same campus on Lions Road in Dutton. Designed with today's seniors in mind, the modern one-bedroom apartments feature barrier-free, open-concept layouts with individual patios or balconies, air conditioning, and large windows that let in plenty of natural light.

The total project cost is $8.5 million, with funding secured through CMHC, St. Thomas Housing, and the Municipality of Dutton Dunwich. But to close the gap, the Lions need to raise $500,000 from the community, and that's where neighbours like us come in.

As a company with deep roots in Dutton, supporting this project was a natural fit. Our head office is here. Our employees live here. And for many of us, the seniors who will call Caledonia Three home are people we know — our friends, family members, and longtime neighbours.

"It's part of our DNA," says Steve Dilts, Salus Mutual's President and CEO. "As a mutual insurance company, we're built on the principle of neighbour helping neighbour. Supporting projects like this is one of the ways we live that out."

The Lions have been serving this community for decades, and their commitment to building affordable housing for seniors has made a real difference in the lives of local residents. We're proud to be part of this effort and grateful for the opportunity to give back to the place we call home.
